Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos

Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos
Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos (Av Grecia 2001, Ñuñoa 02, Santiago) – this is the national stadium of Chile, and the largest in the country (seating capacity of 47,000). This is also part of a sporting complex, which includes tennis courts, an aquatics center, a gymnasium, a velodrome, a BMX circuit, and a warmup athletics track. International sports observers may find the layout of the Estadio and adjoining sports complex familiar, since it was modeled after the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany. The Estadio also earned notoriety for its use as a prison camp by Gen. Pinochet during his overthrow of Marxist president Allende in 1973 (used as a backdrop in the 1982 Hollywood drama film “Missing” with Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek). Along with the football games, concerts have been held here, too, by artists such as: Rollings Stone, Kiss, Juan Gabriel, Chayanne, Luis Miguel, Juan Luis Guerra, Iron Maiden Shakira, Rush, Bon Jovi, Metallica, AC/DC, Los Tres, Los Prisioneros, Los Jaivas , and Sol y Lluvia (among others).
