La Piojera (Aillavillu, e/Calles Puente y Bandera, Santiago) – this is a dive bar with a folksy feel (given the campesino-like atmosphere this venue generates). Cheap drinks and wine flow freely here, gaucho-like guitar players strum some tunes and sing Chilean campfire songs, and home cooked-style Chilean meals are also available here. Live bands occasionally perform here, too. Given its location toward the historical parts of central Santiago, it attracts both locals and tourists. Take note: the favored drink served here is the “Terremoto” (earthquake) — a mix of pipeño (a type of rustic white wine), fernet (an herbal bitter), and pineapple ice cream. This drink earned its name from those who were unable to stand up after having one.
