Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende (Av. República 475, Santiago Centro, Santiago) – this museum is named after deposed Chilean president Salvador Allende, making this a “must see” stop for those sympathize with the man and his views. Its permanent characterized modern art between the 1960s and 80s. It begins with the so-called Latin American New Realism in which we can see works by artists who valued their pre-Hispanic cultural heritage and popular culture in the search for a Latin American identity. Among these are Pedro Figari, Roberto Carpani, Osvaldo Guayasamín and Siqueiros. There are also pieces in the collection by more renowned artists such as Mujer Pájaro (1972) by Joan Miró, which was created especially for the museum and Alexander Calder who, as well as donating one of his mobile sculptures, also dedicated the painting Au Museé de la Solidarité (1972).

Admission: 1,000 pesos. Free admission for students, seniors and members of social organizations. Hours: 10 am – 6 pm (Tuesday – Sunday), closed on Mondays.
