Museum of Memory and Human Rights (Matucana 501, Santiago) – this museum, opened in 2010 by then-Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, was dedicated to the victims of human rights violations committed by the military regime of Gen. Pinochet between 1973 and 1990. Bachelet herself was one of those victims. The museum houses memorabilia of torture devices used during the Pinochet dictatorship, letters to family members by prisoners in detention centers, newspaper clippings, and testimony from survivors. Since then, this museum has added exhibits on global human rights, as well as on the country’s indigenous population.
Admission: 10 am – 6 pm (Tuesday – Sunday)(March 4 – November 30); 10 am – 8 pm (December 1 – March 3). Free guided tours are offered, which are to be requested in advance via email: visitasguiadas@museodelamemoria.cl
